THE PAID RANSOM PRICE

THE PAID RANSOM PRICE

Colossians 1:14 “In whom we have the redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of the sins.”

We were held hostage in Satan’s kingdom and Jesus came and redeemed us by a ransom price.

Spiritual death entered the world through Adam (Rom 5:12), but Jesus came to undo what Adam did. Adam and Eve voluntarily walked into the slave market of Satan. Children born to slaves are slaves. Jesus was the only man that could pay the redemption price because he was born into the world without the nature of sin. He was tempted from the outside, just as Adam and Eve had been, but He did not sin. God paid the ransom price for the slavery of mankind and the medium of exchange was the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Understanding Redemption[1]

  1. The whole of mankind was subject to slavery with each human after Adam, having been born slaves. Man needed to be purchased by a free man. Jesus was the free Man who was through Mary’s virgin birth. The principle of redemption is found in (John 8:31-36).
  2. Jesus paid the ransom for our sins on the cross with his blood (Psalm 34:22, Galatians 3:13, 1 Peter 1:18-19).
  3. Redemption is a doctrine which believers can apply in times of pressure and receive blessing (Job 19:25-26).
  4. Redemption results in the biblical adoption – we become adult sons (Galatians 4:4-6).
  5. The Old Testament’s shedding of blood typified redemption (Hebrews 9:22).
  6. Redemption provides the basis for our inheritance (Hebrews 9:15).
  7. Jesus’ blood in redemption results in the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:14, Ephesians 1:7).
  8. Redemption provides the underlying support for justification (Romans 3:24).

Results of Redemption [2]

  1. We have been redeemed from the curse of the Law (Galatians 3:13, 4:4-6).
  2. We have sanctification (Ephesians 5:25-27).
  3. We have been given authority over demonic spirits (Colossians 2:14-15; Hebrews 2:14-15).
  4. We are guaranteed a resurrection body (Romans 8:23; Ephesians 1:14, 4:30).
